You might think that teeth straightening is a cosmetic dental treatment, but it can also do a lot to help improve your dental health.
If you currently struggle to brush and floss your teeth then you will benefit from teeth straightening. You’ll find you can comfortably clean all the tooth surfaces, and that the floss fits easily in between each tooth.
Teeth that do not meet together properly can wear unevenly. If you bite down on one or two teeth before all the rest, then these teeth are more likely to chip and wear over time, and may need restorative dentistry to repair them.
When you don't have enough room in your jaw for your teeth to fit normally, your teeth can bunch up, overlap and twist, sometimes getting pushed forward or backward.
Over time we can manipulate the position of your teeth, straightening them to give you a great smile, as well as making them easier to clean.
When you have gaps between two or more of your teeth, it can create spaces between your teeth and gums where food can get stuck. It can make your gums tender and sore and, if untreated, even lead to gum disease.
Using braces to adjust your teeth, we can move your teeth into a straight position, reducing gum problems and improving your smile.
Overbite?
What most people call overbite is actually a condition called 'Overjet' where the upper teeth excessively extend forward of the lower ones. This is a condition that can be resolved with orthodontic treatment as tooth movement can be combined with growth modification to accelerate the growth of the lower jaw reducing the overjet. However it is important to treat those children during their peak growth, typically younger than 14 years.
